At MathsConnected, I believe every child can grow into a confident and capable mathematician. Through visual models, problem strings, rich thinking tasks and a concrete–pictorial–abstract approach, learners are encouraged to notice patterns, make connections, explain their ideas and develop flexible strategies. The focus is not just on getting the answer, but on understanding why the maths works.

🧮 Problem Strings
At MathsConnected, problem strings are carefully sequenced sets of related questions that help learners notice patterns, make connections and develop flexible mathematical strategies. Each problem builds on the one before it, allowing children to use what they already know to work out something new. Through discussion and visual models, learners explain their thinking, compare methods and gradually develop a deeper understanding of how and why the mathematics works.
💡 Thinking Adventures
At MathsConnected, thinking tasks are rich, engaging problems that encourage learners to explore, reason and make sense of mathematics. They are designed to have an accessible starting point so that every child can begin, while also offering opportunities for deeper thinking, multiple strategies and further challenge. Learners are encouraged to work collaboratively, use visual and concrete models, explain their ideas and learn from different approaches. The focus is not simply on completing a question, but on developing curiosity, perseverance and confident mathematical thinking.
